How your offer is calculated

The formulas, assumptions and limitations behind OfferCheck results.

Updated 7 October 2026 · OfferCheck editorial

Monthly working time

Monthly workdays = working days per week × 52 ÷ 12. A five-day week therefore becomes 21.67 days per month. This is an annualized average, not the number of weekdays in a particular month. Holidays and paid leave are not subtracted. Monthly hours include work plus both directions of travel on each workday.

Travel and food

Monthly distance = one-way kilometres × 2 × monthly workdays. For a bike or car, fuel cost = monthly distance ÷ kilometres per litre × fuel price. Public transport uses the one-way fare × 2 × monthly workdays. A zero distance removes travel cost and time. Lunch cost = daily lunch cost × monthly workdays unless free lunch is selected. Enter maintenance, parking and tolls in other monthly work costs.

Pay and benefits

Take-home = gross salary − the monthly tax deduction you enter. This tool does not calculate statutory tax rates. Real monthly offer value = take-home − unreimbursed commute − lunch − other work costs. Fuel reimbursement is limited to calculated travel cost and only applies when selected. An after-tax annual bonus is divided by 12 and displayed separately, not added to regular monthly value. Medical coverage is not assigned an invented cash amount.

Hourly value and the indicator

Effective hourly earning = real monthly offer value ÷ monthly work-and-travel hours. Work-cost burden means commute, lunch and other work costs divided by take-home. The labels use thresholds of 15% and 30%; they are product heuristics, not established affordability standards. A low burden does not mean that the salary covers your household needs.

Salary and place sources

Industry averages come from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics Labour Force Survey 2024–25, Table 45. Role averages are dated national Indeed base-salary snapshots. Neither adjusts for your experience or city. City search uses GeoNames populated-place data under CC BY 4.0, including towns and villages; it is not an official exhaustive register. The calculator homepage links to the sources and records their dates.

Use and limitations

Calculators support a choice of currencies without converting exchange rates. Enter your own local payroll deductions and prices. Salary benchmarks cover selected published occupations in Pakistan, the US and UK using their respective currencies. US and UK monthly references are annual mean gross wages divided by 12; UK figures cover full-time employees in the same job for over a year. These are different populations, not a currency-adjusted international ranking. The city directory covers Pakistan; other cities can be entered manually. Examples in the guides use PKR and are hypothetical, not current fuel prices, tax advice or wage recommendations. Results round for display, so small differences can occur when adding rounded lines. This educational tool excludes rent, household spending, job stability, growth opportunities and the quality of benefits. Confirm actual deductions and offer terms with the employer.

Household budget calculations

The Budget Calculator adds take-home salary and other income, then subtracts listed essential and lifestyle expenses. Blank fields count as zero; negative inputs, non-finite numbers and amounts above Rs 1 billion per field are rejected. Amounts round to two decimal places before calculation. Negative remainders are shown as deficits. Spending and remaining percentages are unavailable when income is zero. Daily equivalent = monthly remainder × 12 ÷ 365; annual equivalent = monthly remainder × 12. The remaining rate is potential savings capacity, not money actually saved. These projections assume unchanged income and expenses.

Country and state directory

Country and state names are adapted from the Countries States Cities database, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Our adapted directory is available under the same license. These names support location selection; salary benchmarks remain national, not state-specific.
